Training and Preparation Information
Before assessment for HLTA status, all candidates attend either a training programme or 3 days preparation.

The purpose of preparation is:
• To make candidates aware of the requirements of the assessment process
• To ensure they understand the professional standards for HLTA status
• To provide support for candidates in the provision of evidence to demonstrate achievement against the standards
• To provide support for the HLTA assessment registration process
The Four Stages of Preparation
1. Understanding the Standards
Stage 1 builds familiarity with the HLTA standards, clarifies understanding of the HLTA standards and looks at how the standards relate to candidates’ work in schools.
2. Introducing the Assessment Tasks
Stage 2 clarifies the understanding of the assessment process. It supports candidates in writing their tasks.
3. Formative feedback on the candidates’ draft work
Candidates review their draft responses for the assessment tasks. They help each other to develop their tasks.
4. Preparing for the school visit
Stage 4 explains the nature and purpose of the assessor’s visit to the school is explained and the TA’s learn their role in preparing for and organizing the visit.
