Applying for Assessment for AST Status

2. Consider whether you meet the standards and in particular that you can provide:

•  Evidence of at least two years of student performance data
• That you have the ability to share best practice across the school
• That you can participate in 20% outreach
• That you have gained QTS, including successful completion of the induction year

3. Discuss your wish to become an AST with your line manager and find out whether there in an AST post available, or whether one could become available to you. Ensure that funding for the AST post is available either from your local authority or your school.

AST assessments cannot be undertaken unless there is a specific AST post available to the candidate and its funding is confirmed either by the local authority or the headteacher.

4. Download and complete the appropriate application form from the Teachernet website. The form that you should complete will depend upon your current position within your current school. There are essentially three forms available (in English and Welsh language), but only one of which should be completed by the candidate.

If you are a Teacher on the Main Scale you should use the Mainscale Application form in the appropriate language version.

If you are a Post-threshold Teacher you should use the Post-threshold Application form in the appropriate language version.

If you are an Excellent Teacher you should use the Excellent Teacher Application form in the appropriate language version.

The application form shows you which standards you will have to meet in your assessment which are summarized below.

Your headteacher will receive an acknowledgement of receipt of the form and you will be assigned an assessor for your Advanced Skills Teacher assessment.
