HLTA in Independent Schools

At VT Four S, we believe the added value that skilled and qualified Higher Level Teaching Assistants are bringing to maintained schools could transfer to the independent sector.

VT Four S provides a service of training or preparation and assessment for HLTA status to schools in the independent sector. Training or preparation is the same as that for maintained school candidates. Instead of the local authority funding the programme and the assessment, the school usually undertakes these costs.

Candidates should HLTA Application form and send it to VT Four S as directed on the form, together with photocopies of their Level 2 qualifications. They may also use the Training Needs Analysis tool under the guidance of a teaching colleague to establish readiness for preparation or training.

A senior member of the HLTA team will decide whether the candidate is suitable for the 3-day preparation or 9-day training route. VT Four S will provide accurate costs at this time. When the school has provided funding confirmation, the candidate will be offered a place and the procedure will continue as set out in the pages on preparation and training and HLTA assessment.
