Waltham Forest Pupils Celebrate Record GCSE Passes

Pupils in the London Borough of Waltham Forest have been celebrating record GCSE results with provisional figures showing the number of pupils achieving 5A* - C grades rising to 62.6% an increase of 2.5% on last year’s figures.

The number of pupils gaining the gold standard 5 A* - C with Maths and English also saw a rise of over 2%.

Bill Lyttle, Chief Adviser for VT Waltham Forest said,

‘The improvement in GCSE results is a fantastic achievement for Waltham Forest schools their pupils and families and is a tribute to the hard work and dedication of the students and those who work so hard to support them.’

Since April 2008 VTE&S has been working in partnership with the local authority and schools to deliver school improvement and a range of support services aimed at raising educational standards across the Borough.

VT’s focus on providing targeted specialist support to particular schools experiencing difficulties has been especially successful with a number of local schools achieving dramatic rises in their pass rates. Two local schools that had been struggling to meet targets saw increases of seven and eleven per cent respectively in their pass rate.

Liam Donnison, General Manager for VT said,

“I would like to congratulate Waltham Forest pupils for these great results. We recognise the importance the partnership between VT, schools and the local authority plays in continuing to deliver improved opportunities to all young people in Waltham Forest, and look forward to developing that partnership further.”

“This academic year will be an exciting one for VT in Waltham Forest as we role out our extensive traded services offerings, giving WF schools the opportunity to further benefit from VT’s vast experience in delivering school improvement to thousands of schools across the country”.
